VIKING SBS - simplified evacuation without compromising on quality

With fewer crew available to oversee and expedite evacuations, reliable, straightforward evacuation solutions are becoming a compelling alternative to davit-launched or throw overboard liferafts.
VIKING offers a Simple Bowsing System (SBS) for High-Speed Crafts (HSC) and smaller ferries, designed for evacuating 51, 101 and 153 persons with VIKING quality in a convenient, cost-effective package. The system is only delivered as a B pack. The system can be combined with SOLAS approved slides for installation heights up to 3.2 m boarding heights. The VIKING SBS system has been thoroughly tested and proven in heavy weather trials off the coast of Norway under extreme weather conditions.

Fewer, simplified components in high-quality materials ensure the VIKING SBS evacuation system will not weigh heavy on your budget. Liferafts with extended service intervals are available, too, reducing maintenance frequency.

Instant advantages

  • Easy and reliable deployment - only requires one crew member
  • Simple installation, with few installation parts on ship side
  • Free-moving slide and elastic bowsing lines protect against tearing
  • Top-of-the-line quality and easy to service

Straightforward installation

The liferaft container is installed on the vessel close to the evacuation door. The slide is packed in a valise, which is placed on the vessel behind or nearby the evacuation door. The slide is ready to hook onto two padeyes at the evacuation door after liferaft inflation and position itself against the vessel side.

Connections in a deployed state

The slide is connected to the vessel by two lashings hooked onto two padeyes. Bowsing line no. 1 is a single bowsing line, and this is the first line to be pulled until the liferaft container is fully positioned against vesselside. Bowsing line no. 2 is a bowsing line connected to the quick release line. When bowsing line 2 is pulled, the liferaft starts inflation while the liferaft is positioned against the vessel side.

Two bowsing lines from the liferaft container are pre-attached to two cleats, one on each side of the evacuation door. Bowsing lines are led from the liferaft container to cleats in split tubes.

Flexible choices

The VIKING SBS is available in direct-boarding liferaft configurations, or with SOLAS-approved slides in three different sizes to cater for various evacuation heights. There are models to meet the requirements of the HSC- and the LSA Code. All of the models are ready for SBS MES approval.
Choose either standard liferafts or Extended Service Interval liferafts in VIKING quality - at highly competitive servicing prices.

The simple way to greater flexibility

The VIKING SBS system is designed to use standard liferafts or liferafts with extended service intervals such as the VIKING S30. It is the world’s most popular liferaft with extended service intervals on the market, with more than 10.000 units in operation. Some of the benefits of a S30 are:

  • No power or computer is needed for onboard inspection by crew
  • A full package with all the accessories you need – including a specially equipped VIKING S30 inspection briefcase
  • The world’s most efficient servicing network with a state-of-the-art booking system
  • Online support portal for training and documentation

Liferafts with extended service intervals can be serviced at 30-month intervals, as long as the same safety levels are met as for conventional liferafts. Instead, crew must be certified to carry out annual onboard inspections, and full service is carried out after 30 months at a certified station.
This type of liferaft is not suitable for use in all situations. For that reason our VIKING Shipowner Agreements cover supply and servicing for both these and conventional liferafts – enabling you to mix and match liferaft types per vessel as your needs change. Furthermore, VIKING representatives are always ready to advise on the best solution for your fleet.
