Student Assistant, Business Excellence department, VIKING HQ

The dilemma facing many college students these days is whether to enter the workforce and get some practical experience (and earn a little money) or focus 100% on your studies. Working while studying was right for me – I see it as a way to get a head start, while I complete my Master’s degree.

In my first month on the job, it was interesting as a student to experience how a global company works. My main task is to assist with various improvement projects in the company. The tasks vary a lot depending on the type of project and how far in the process we are, but there is always a lot of research and analysis work to be done.

What’s so special about VIKING?

VIKING gives me the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills I have acquired through textbooks, in a real world, business environment.

While other companies might do the same, I chose to work at VIKING because it’s a global company with many opportunities - both locally in all stages of the value chain here in Esbjerg, and at locations all over the world.

My career ambition at VIKING is to become a Project Manager, because I like the process where we move from the idea phase to implementing a useful new tool or improvement for my colleagues.

Would you recommend a friend to work here? It’s great working here. VIKING has an amazing company culture. Friendly coworkers and a team-oriented environment. I learn so much and develop my skills every day. Working 10 to 15 hours a week, my schedule gives me the opportunity to focus both on my education and on VIKING. And the experience I get is a great stepping stone from my studies to working at the company.  I would highly recommend working for VIKING during your studies, and VIKING offers a broad range of Student Assistant and Intern positions, so it’s easy to find the one that’s just right for you.
