These are some examples of VIKING Norsafe systems that help you reduce complexity and ease maintenance.

VIKING Norsafe UnibeamTM

UnibeamTM is a safe method to secure a lifeboat in the davit using a temporary lifting beam. This allows the lifeboat to undergo significant modification or upgrade (including hook replacement) without having to transfer it to a dedicated work area.

System features

  • Telescopic lifting beam in three bolted sections designed to fit multiple davits
  • Made from lightweight carbon fibre for easy offshore operation (each section is less than 24 kg)
  • Designed for use on multiple davit models, both fixed and pivoting types
  • Suspended to the davit structure in existing suspension points
  • Lifeboat is suspended to the beam with standard lifting slings

Engine brake system

VIKING Norsafe can provide an engine dynamometer, which allows lifeboat engines to be operated under load. This means that waterborne testing of the lifeboat can be avoided.

The engine brake system has been developed for general maintenance and performance testing of lifeboat engines. This allows the operator to run the lifeboat engine ove rlonger period - with load applied - to correctly demonstrate that the motor is functioning as intended. Running the engine with a load as part of the maintenance routine reduces carbon build up, and has a positive effect on the efficiency and lifetime of the engine.

Additional external freshwater cooling is provided to avoid heat damage to the engine.

The system is developed by Frydenbø and is available for Sabb lifeboat engines.

Onload hook testing kit

During annual inspection of the conventional lifeboat, the release gear should be inspected and simultaneous release should be demonstrated. This is as required by MSC.1/Circ. 1206 - Guidelines for periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear. The same is required by MSC.1/Circ. 1486 - Guidelines on alternative methods for lifeboat drills on MODUs.

VIKING Norsafe has two solutions which can demonstrate hook simultaneous opening.

  • The Carry on kit with base plate, gas cylinders and bar. This solution pushes the hook open at release to show that it opens simultaneously

  • The Hydraulic test kit is a more significant arrangement. As well as simultaneous release, the system has larger brackets and hydraulic cylinders to demonstrate that the release gear can release with a load equal to 1.1 x SWL of release gear

VIKING Norsafe Sim2TM - Simulated free-fall

Free-fall lifeboats should be full scale drop tested periodically, although it is not always possible to physically launch the lifeboat. Because of this, IMO adopted resolution MSC.32ly5 (90) as an amendment to SOLAS chapter III, reg. 20.11.2.4. This allows for simulated launches to test the lifeboat and its release system. VIKING Norsafe provides a standardized solution, the SIM Mk2 simulated free-fall system.

System features

  • Extension to the length of the hook bracket
  • Hydraulic jacks push the boat up and off of the retaining hook as normal launch procedure
  • Full function of the release system can be demonstrated under load
  • As part of the lifeboat drill there can be full loading and release procedure without the boat entering free-fall
  • Secondary security is provided by a hold back arrangement
  • Following testing the free-fall boat can be lowered back to its stowed position

VIKING Norsafe Deluge test equipment

VIKING Norsafe deluge test kit is available for all conventional and free-fall lifeboats to test the deluge (sprinkler) system without launching the lifeboat. It allows testing of the deluge system in the davit in accordance with MSC.1/Circ. 1486 - Guidelines on alternative methods for lifeboat drills on MODUs.

The test kit generates the equivalent water pressure to having the boat waterborne, without having the boat in the water. The deluge test kit can be installed on all new lifeboats and retrofitted to existing lifeboats.
