INFORMATION ABOUT THE RECALL

Which types of liferafts are recalled?
This recall covers certain serial numbers of the VIKING RescYou™ (UKL) yachting liferafts and RescYou™ Pro (UKSL) yachting liferafts, sizes 4, 6 and 8 persons in either container or valise.

How are the liferafts being recalled?
In as many cases as possible we are contacting our customers directly. In addition we have informed the relevant authorities, sent out press releases and recall notices to publications worldwide, and sent safety notices for display to distributors and yachting clubs among others.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE

Why does the Thanner OTS 65 pressure relief valve need replacement?
The supplier of pressure relief valves, Thanner & Co A/S, has informed VIKING that potential problems in relation to their product Thanner type OTS 65 may cause the valve to break and prevent the liferaft from inflating properly. In the unlikely event that both valves are affected, the liferaft will sink.

What is a pressure relief valve and what does it do?
A pressure relief valve regulates the pressure in the buoyancy chambers during inflation. The liferafts have two buoyancy chambers, and one buoyancy chamber is enough to keep the liferafts with its passengers afloat.



Where is the pressure valve located?
The pressure relief valves are located on the buoyancy chambers on the outside of the liferaft. There is one on each buoyancy chamber.

How many pressure relief valves are there on a liferaft?
The RescYou™ liferaft has 2 pressure relief valves.
The RescYou™ Pro has 3 pressure relief values due to a different construction with self-righting properties.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE INSPECTION

How soon should I bring my liferaft in for inspection?
As there is a risk of malfunction, please bring your liferaft in for inspection as soon as possible.

What could happen if my liferaft does not get inspected?
If there is a problem with a pressure relief valve, it will not be discovered.

Are all servicing stations able to perform the valve inspection and possible replacement?
VIKING has a network of servicing stations that are approved to perform the inspection and possible replacement. Please click here to see the list of those servicing stations.

SHIPPING

Where should I bring/send my liferaft?
To an applicable VIKING authorised servicing station listed in this web site.

What about shipping of the liferaft to the servicing station?
Your local VIKING office or the applicable servicing station will be pleased to assist you.

Who pays for the shipping?
VIKING will cover the shipping costs if it is arranged by VIKING or the servicing station.

Dangerous goods – shipping?
When booking the shipment of a liferaft it is important to inform the shipping company that the UN number is 2990 for the liferaft. Liferafts contain CO2 bottles and pyrotechnics and are therefore classified as dangerous goods when being shipped. As such please contact your local VIKING office or servicing station for assistance if you need to book shipment of your liferaft.

When can I expect my liferaft back?
Please arrange with the servicing station. They will do their utmost to meet your needs.


COSTS

Will this recall cost me anything?
The inspection of the Thanner OTS 65 pressure relief valves and possible replacement will of course be free of charge. Shipping costs will also be covered by VIKING when we arrange it.
