For decades VIKING has made survival easier for the yachting set – and life easier for rescue teams. Hailed as the market’s best by independent sources, VIKING’s RescYouTM Pro products have led the yachting market since their debut as the world’s first ultra-fast self-righting liferafts. Today, this liferaft is considered by many to be the ultimate for all types of yachting and the perfect choice for ocean sailing. At METS 2010 VIKING is taking it one step further with a full package of SOLAS/EU and MCA-approved safety products for super yachts. Super yachts of 24 to 65 meters in length typically sail under SOLAS regulations, which allows them to carry more than 12 guests at a time. Their equipment tends to be of the highest quality – and the way it looks can be almost as important as how well it works. VIKING’s CEO Henrik Uhd Christensen is confident of a warm reception for VIKING at the event. “When it comes to super yachts, both shipowners and designers tell us that the VIKING range are the most attractive products on the market – which is a factor of great importance when we’re talking about the market for luxury super yachts. For example, VIKING’s SOLAS liferafts come in high-gloss, square containers that blend in beautifully with other super yacht design details.” But it’s not just aesthetic appeal that wins the day for VIKING. VIKING immersion suits, such as the top-of-the-line PS4170, are aimed at keeping super yacht owners and crews safe in emergency conditions. VIKING will also be showcasing its innovative design-your-own inflatable lifejackets, which are perfect for super yachts that like to do things their own special way. Known as the PV9320 series, these lifejackets are part of the company’s drive to provide flexible and quick-to-deliver solutions for markets with special requirements. Made possible by a modular design, you can tailor your own solution with a selection of buoyancy, different closure types (buckles), cover materials, colours and a host of accessories. No matter how the lifejacket is designed, it will fulfill existing and future SOLAS requirements described in MSC-200(81). Christensen is keen to make VIKING’s competitive advantage in the market crystal clear: “No one else can provide a full package of SOLAS-approved products for super yachts – as well as the convenience of having them supported and quickly serviced almost anywhere in the world.”
