Ship ablaze Under extreme conditions on the night of Saturday the 8th January 2005, the crew of the rescue vessel Esvagt Omega saved a crew of 15 men from a burning ship. The Dutch vessel, Schieborg lay ablaze 50 nautical miles west of Hvide Sande in Denmark. Appalling conditions The rescue crew defied 12 metre high waves and gusts of up to 42 metres per second, or 94 miles per hour, to save those onboard. Three members of the rescue crew were lowered from the Esvagt Omega into their rescue boat from which they fished the shocked and exhausted seamen one by one from the heaving seas. Safe return to port An hour and a quarter later all stricken sailors were safely on board the Esvagt ship and on course for Esbjerg port Translation from the newspaper article “Heroes of the sea” JydskeVestkysten, 10th January 2005
