Custom made safety products prove popular to style and quality conscious yacht owners

Press release

(Esbjerg, Denmark, 14 November 2008)

Custom made safety products prove popular to style and quality conscious yacht owners.

  • New custom made containers: Colour of choice containers prove popular to the style-aware yacht owners, allowing for sophisticated and individual look
  • Tailor made evacuation systems offer dry shod passage from yacht to liferaft
  • New products: PV9410 lifejacket and PS4170 constant wear/immersion suit are instant successes

Custom made liferaft containers prove popular
VIKING now offers their containers lacquered in a high quality finish in the colour you wish!

"Your life-saving equipment should be chosen to suit your yacht, whether choosing a liferaft or a tailor made mini evacuation system – and quality does make a difference", says Christian Grouleff, Global sales manager for the yachting segment at VIKING LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT in Denmark. "What we offer is first class equipment on the inside and excellent quality finish on the outside."

The high gloss, low profile, rigid fibre glass containers offer your liferaft the ultimate protection against exposure to the elements. Containers are available square or round and can be mounted horizontally on deck or vertically on push pit or bulkhead. Strong anti-slip lashings safely secure the liferaft to VIKING’s stainless steel cradles, providing the lowest profile available. Optional hydrostatic release units are available for all container and cradle installations.

VIKING Evacuation Liferaft System with SOLAS MiniSlide – the VELS+SMS

Standing at the top of an evacuation system can be a daunting prospect for anyone, especially in hard weather conditions. Hesitance to dive into the unknown is understandable, but slows evacuation. Passengers need to know where they are going and see what they are getting into.

VIKING’s new compact MiniSlide system has a dual approach to reducing these stress factors. Evacuees can see the full length of the slide from the top and can see into the adjoining liferaft. The large patent pending
brake cushion at the base gives a clearly visible, safe stopping point, reducing the "fear of the unknown" factor. With an exit on either side it helps prevent crowd build up at the bottom that can hinder others from descending. At the same time, extra high sides along the slide give an increased feeling of security, especially in heavy weather, and help keep evacuees safer.

Freeing crew members to aid in evacuee flow
On yachts and mega yachts the number of crew members required to operate equipment is an important consideration, as there may be limited personnel on board. Only one crew member is needed to operate the new VIKING evacuation system. The patent pending single bowsing winch technology replaces the dual winch system, making the system faster and easier to position. One winch creates just the right pull in just the right places to ensure the liferaft is swiftly, safely and easily pulled into place ready to receive passengers.

PV9410 Slim fit lifejacket with increased buoyancy
Lifejackets save lives if properly worn. There are countless excuses for not wearing one, with one of the most common being “it’s uncomfortable”. VIKING's PV9410 yachting lifejackets are specifically designed for comfort as well as protection, in addition to a trendy design. Slim and lightweight for comfortable all day wear and won't get in the way of sailing activities. The detachable fleece neck liner makes it extra soft and hygienic to wear.

The secret to the VIKING PV9410's light weight and easy fit is the integrated cover and buoyancy chamber. VIKING designers know what it takes to make a lifejacket everyone wants to wear. The new VIKING PV9410 model has 275 Newtons of buoyancy and is approved according to DS EN ISO 12402-2. A choice of manual or automatic inflation and include a back up oral inflation tube. Orange buoyancy chamber and reflective tape inside the cover make the wearer visible from a distance. Available in black, blue or white.

PS4170 Constant wear, SOLAS immersion & anti-exposure suit
In parallel, VIKING is launching a new SOLAS approved breathable constant wear suit. The PS4170 constant wear, SOLAS immersion and anti-exposure suit has been designed with freedom of movement and extra comfort in mind. A detachable lining with integrated buoyancy foam makes it ideal for operations in both cold and warmer climates.

“This is big news for those who have been looking for a flexible solution for their constant wear suits” says Global Sales Manager Jørgen Holm. “The new constant wear suit can be used as a 6-hour SOLAS immersion suit or 1-hour anti-exposure suit just by exchanging the thermal lining. This makes it perfect for warm and cold weather use. The new GORE-TEX® Pazifik™ outer material with its exceptional ‘breathability’ makes it incredibly comfortable for all day use,” he adds. “You can also choose between several choices of footwear, hood types, thermal linings and special pockets. You can build a suit that is just right for your needs.”
