Job & Career Meet our employees Liudmila Velichko

We practice our values instead of just printing them on a piece of paper

To Liudmila Velichko, VIKING’s values – Global, Responsible, Committed, Reliable and Caring – are more than just pretty words on a piece of paper. They aptly describe daily work at VIKING.

Respect is something you earn
In Liudmila’s opinion, VIKING has a flat organisation, which is efficient because the decisions are taken relatively quickly. The flat organisation also means that the head office in Esbjerg, Denmark, listens to the subsidiaries outside the country and appreciates the fact that employees are familiar with the local markets of their respective countries which enables the employees to provide important input when decisions are to be made.

As sales director, Liudmila is directly involved with both management of six employees, sales strategy and responsible for the global positioning of VIKING LSE Norge offshore evacuation systems.

“There are obvious differences between Russia’s and Norway’s management culture. In Russia, you are respected simply because you are a manager. In Norway, this respect is something you have to earn from your employees. Thanks to my determination, hard work and adaptability, things have gone well for me in VIKING (even though I’m both younger and less experienced in the area than the rest of my staff) and I’m pleased to be charged with this responsibility.”

“In general, one of VIKING’s typical characteristics is that you have to earn respect. But once you’ve earned it, you also experience how the company and your colleagues support you and ease your day-to-day work. VIKING is a flexible, dynamic workplace.”

Liudmila started her career with VIKING in 2004 in sales. She wanted to work for a truly global company and was attracted by VIKING's primary goal of saving lives.

Liudmila Velichko is originally from Minsk, Belarus and has a bachelor degree in economic science from BESU.

She was also an exchange student in the US and earned an MBA from Richmond, the American University in London. Liudmila worked in financial and telecommunication industries in her home country, the UK and Russia before joining VIKING in Norway.

Liudmila is married to Roy Arne Oma who is from Bergen, Norway.

“When I moved to Bergen, I applied solely for jobs at international companies because I wanted to use my experience of working in multicultural environments and linguistic skills.

VIKING is an international company, and that’s why I sent them an unsolicited application – and fortunately I got a job,” says Liudmila, who as sales director is charged with local responsibility for VIKING's core products and with worldwide responsibility for offshore evacuation systems

“VIKING is different to some international companies I know because we actually practice our values instead of just printing them on a piece of paper. We’re devoted and go to great lengths for our customers. We also take pride in ensuring that our customers can rely on us and our products.”

“We have a good team spirit, both locally and worldwide, and as colleagues we help each other. As an employee I also feel that VIKING thinks about our working environment. ”
