Job & Career Meet our employees Al Osle

VIKING’s products can be a matter of life or death

When Al Osle describes a typical employee at VIKING, he uses words like Drive, Foresight, Committed and Informal.

After working for only five months at VIKING’s US office, Al Osle replaced his sales director cap with the title of managing director for the subsidiary in Miami, Florida, that covers the entire American continent. When the opportunity arose, both VIKING and Al Osle grabbed it.

“After four years of working for VIKING, I still find my job challenging and interesting and worth all the effort. I work lots of hours every week, but I like my job because it makes a difference. Our products serve a vital purpose,” says Al Osle.

Before VIKING, Osle worked in the area of logistics and supply chain [management] for large US companies. He wasn’t familiar with VIKING when he applied for the sales manager job, but his first interview convinced him that VIKING was the right company for him.

“I was attracted to VIKING because their products mean something to the users. The nature of the products requires us to really keep what we promise. Otherwise, someone might lose his or her life and we’d be out of the market in an instant.”

“The interview also told me that VIKING has kept a unique identity of being a family-owned business, even though the company is growing and very international. VIKING shows that it has faith in me to realise my commercial ideas and work according to even long-term strategic plans, and that’s something I greatly appreciate.”

By chance, Osle went on his first holiday cruise right after the introductory interview and saw VIKING’s liferafts on-board the ship.

“I felt it was some sort of sign telling me to work for VIKING.” And that’s what happened…

Global customers in the American market
Together with a number of partners, Al Osle and his 53 employees cover sales and service in all of VIKING’s market segments across the entire American continent.

“Our American customers are often major international companies working in industries like cruise shipping and offshore, so the scope of our work is very international.”

“VIKING is not a gigantic multinational group, but we lead many of our markets and also work around the world. So as an employee I’m experiencing new things and interesting opportunities all the time. There’s never a dull moment at VIKING,” says Al Osle, who doesn’t resemble a man with any dull moments at all, either at work or after hours.

When he isn’t spending his spare time together with his wife Solangel and their daughter Olivia and son Joseph, he is playing golf or setting out to sea off the coast of Florida with his fishing rod.
