Our proud heritage

The Scandinavian connection to sailing the high seas is legendary and Denmark is still a seafaring nation with strong roots in commercial maritime business. VIKING Life-Saving Equipment began protecting lives 45 years ago in a west coast fishing port, producing liferafts for fishermen making their living on the formidable North Sea.
After the terrible loss of life through drowning suffered by merchant sailors during the Second World War, there was a general frustration that not enough was being done to prevent this otherwise avoidable fate. This was echoed by families of fishermen in Denmark, whose husbands and brothers faced the perils of the North Sea on a daily basis.

When Tage Sørensen started VIKING Life-Saving Equipment (then called Nordisk Gummibådsfabrik) in 1960 producing liferafts for fishing vessels, they were an almost immediate success. The company began producing life-saving equipment for other markets and over the years our reputation for superior quality products fuelled an international expansion.

Today VIKING is a global enterprise with a comprehensive range of safety and rescue products for the maritime sector all over the world. We supply safety products for the commercial vessel sector, offshore installations as well as for the leisure market with high expectations for reliability, convenience and design.
