Welcome to VIKING LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT

Liferaft

A liferaft may be a person’s last chance of survival. VIKING products are therefore manufactured with the greatest care and respect for the situation in which they are likely to be used. The basic material of VIKING liferafts is a strong webbing covered with natural rubber. An extremely advantageous feature of rubber is its elasticity and flexibility, which is essential for the heavy loads to which the liferaft is exposed in case of emergency. This has proved crucial to its functioning under boarding and loading as demonstrated under the numerous rough sea trials and when deployed at extremely low temperatures. The liferafts have been successfully tested in compliance with the prescribed international requirements and regulations. For instance they have been subjected to velocity tests at forces of 30 m/sec and to sea trials in rough sea conditions. Self-righting liferafts have also been subjected to tests demonstrating their self-righting properties. Designed to comply with the new International Maritime Organisation / SOLAS Chapter III requirements to maritime equipment, VIKING’s products have also been fully approved by many other countries throughout the world and have been accredited by classification societies such as Det Norske Veritas – on behalf of the EU. A minimum of two individual buoyancy compartments means that damage of any one of the compartments will still leave sufficient buoyancy to carry the weight of the number of persons for which the liferaft is permitted to accommodate. Liferafts are housed in rigid fibre glass containers so constructed as to withstand hard wear. Installed on board the vessel in either individually on cradles – together on racks – or stowed vertically on top of each other.
